At NaijaCupid, operated by LonerTech Ltd, we are building a safe, respectful space where Nigerian singles can connect authentically and find meaningful relationships. Every person who joins our community matters, and that is why we have created these community guidelines.
This Code of Conduct is not just a list of rules — it is a binding agreement between you and NaijaCupid. When you create a profile, access the platform, or use any feature of NaijaCupid in any way, you agree to be bound by this Code of Conduct in full, together with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

1. Respect Is Our Foundation: Zero Tolerance for Hate and Harassment
NaijaCupid celebrates Nigeria's diversity — our different tribes, religions, backgrounds, and perspectives. Every member deserves to feel welcome and valued here.
The following conduct is strictly prohibited and constitutes a breach of this Code:
Hate Speech and Discrimination: We have zero tolerance for attacks or insults based on tribe, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic. Nigeria is home to over 250 ethnic groups, and we honour that diversity. Discriminatory language, stereotypes, or exclusionary behaviour will result in immediate account removal.
Harassment and Bullying: No means no. If someone asks you to stop messaging them, respect their boundary immediately. Harassment includes persistent unwanted contact, intimidation, threats, stalking behaviour, or sharing private conversations without consent.
Abusive Behaviour: Verbal abuse, name-calling, insults, and aggressive messaging have no place here. We expect every interaction to reflect basic courtesy and human decency.
2. Your Safety First: Scam Prevention and Security Rules
Dating safety is our top priority. Romance scammers exist on every platform, and we are committed to removing them from NaijaCupid. Our security team works around the clock, but we need your partnership.
Strictly Prohibited Activities:
Financial Scams and Fraud: Never ask for or send money, gift cards, airtime, bank transfers, or any financial assistance to or from someone you have met on NaijaCupid. This includes:
- Requesting money for emergencies, medical bills, travel, or visa fees
- Investment or business opportunity schemes
- Requests for bank account details, BVN numbers, or financial credentials
- Arrangements that involve explicit payment for companionship or intimate relationships
- Cryptocurrency or forex trading solicitations
Identity Misrepresentation and Fake Profiles: You must be who you say you are. Prohibited conduct includes:
- Using someone else's photographs or impersonating another person
- Lying about your age, location, marital status, or other material details
- Creating multiple accounts or fake profiles
- Catfishing — misrepresenting your identity or appearance to deceive other users
Privacy Violations:
- Publicly sharing phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, or workplace locations in your profile
- Sharing or requesting sensitive documents (ID cards, passports, bank statements)
- Publishing private conversations or photos without explicit consent
- Pressuring other users to move conversations off-platform to avoid moderation
3. Profile Content Standards: Authentic and Appropriate
Your profile is your introduction to potential matches. Express yourself authentically while keeping content appropriate for all adults on the platform.
No Explicit or Sexual Content: NaijaCupid is a dating platform, not an adult content site. Prohibited content includes:
- Nudity or sexually explicit images, even if partially censored
- Sexually suggestive poses or content focused on intimate body parts
- Explicit sexual language or solicitations in profiles or bios
- Links to adult websites or content
No Illegal Activities:
- Drug use, sales, or promotion of illegal substances
- Violence, weapons, or threatening imagery
- Any criminal activity or illegal services
No Commercial Activity or Spam:
- Advertising products, services, or businesses in your profile
- Pyramid schemes, multi-level marketing, or unsolicited business opportunities
- Promotional links or external website advertisements
- Using the platform to recruit for jobs, events, or religious or political groups
Quality and Accuracy Standards: Use clear, recent photographs that accurately represent you. Your main profile photo must show your face clearly. Blurry, heavily filtered, or deceptive images may be removed without notice. Providing materially false information in your profile constitutes a breach of this Code and our Terms of Service, and NaijaCupid reserves the right to terminate your account and retain evidence of misrepresentation for enforcement purposes.
4. How We Enforce These Rules: Reporting, Investigation, and Accountability
Maintaining community standards is a shared responsibility. NaijaCupid's enforcement team investigates all reports and takes action proportionate to the severity of each violation.
How to Report Violations:
- Report Button: Every profile and message has a confidential reporting tool. Your identity is never disclosed to the reported user.
- Provide Evidence: The more detail you provide — screenshots, message content, behaviour patterns — the faster and more thoroughly we can investigate.
- Block Immediately: You can block any user at any time, independently of submitting a report.
Enforcement Actions — NaijaCupid's Rights and Powers:
NaijaCupid reserves the right to take any or all of the following actions in response to a breach of this Code, at its sole discretion:
- Content Removal: Immediate deletion of any content that violates this Code, without notice and without compensation to the user.
- Formal Warning: Issuance of a warning for first-time or minor violations, with documentation retained on the account record.
- Temporary Suspension: Account suspension for a defined period (typically 7–30 days) for repeated or moderate violations. Suspended users are not entitled to a refund of any subscription fees for the suspension period.
- Permanent Termination: Immediate and permanent account removal — with no right of appeal and no refund of any fees paid — for serious violations including but not limited to: fraud, romance scamming, harassment, hate speech, underage use, illegal activity, or conduct that endangers the safety of other users or the reputation of NaijaCupid.
- Data Retention for Enforcement: Upon account termination for misconduct, NaijaCupid will retain all relevant account data, communications, and evidence for as long as necessary to prevent re-registration, defend against any legal claims, and cooperate with law enforcement. This retention right survives account deletion and cannot be overridden by a data erasure request where it conflicts with NaijaCupid's legitimate enforcement interests.
- Legal Action and Law Enforcement Referral: In cases involving threats, blackmail, fraud, criminal behaviour, or conduct causing material harm to NaijaCupid or its users, we reserve the right to refer the matter to the Nigeria Police Force, the EFCC, the NDPC, or other relevant authorities, and to pursue civil legal proceedings — including recovery of costs, damages, and legal fees — against the offending user.
- Chargeback Defence: Any user who initiates a payment chargeback or reversal in bad faith — particularly following account termination for misconduct — will have their account data and transaction history retained and used to contest the chargeback with our payment processor. NaijaCupid reserves the right to pursue recovery of reversed amounts and associated costs through legal proceedings.
5. Additional Platform Rules and Standards
Underage Users: NaijaCupid is exclusively for adults aged 18 and over. Anyone discovered to be underage will be immediately and permanently banned, and all associated data deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Records of the termination will be retained to prevent re-registration. If you encounter a profile you suspect belongs to a minor, report it immediately. NaijaCupid accepts no liability for any interaction involving a minor who has misrepresented their age to gain access to the platform.
Consent: Consent is fundamental to all interactions on NaijaCupid. Never pressure any user for personal information, photographs, meetings, or any activity they have not agreed to. "No" is a complete answer and must be respected immediately and without argument.
Intellectual Property: Only post photographs and content you own or have explicit permission to use. Uploading third-party photographs or copyrighted material without authorisation violates both this Code and Nigerian intellectual property law. NaijaCupid may remove such content and reserves the right to terminate the account of any repeat offender.
Platform Integrity and Technical Misuse: Do not attempt to hack, exploit bugs, use automated bots or scrapers, reverse-engineer any part of the platform, or otherwise interfere with NaijaCupid's technical functionality or infrastructure. Any such conduct constitutes a serious breach of this Code and our Terms of Service, and NaijaCupid reserves the right to pursue legal remedies — including injunctive relief and damages — against any person responsible.
Ban Circumvention: Users whose accounts have been suspended or permanently terminated must not attempt to re-register on the platform under any new name, identity, device, or IP address. Ban circumvention is a serious breach of this Code and our Terms of Service. NaijaCupid actively monitors for re-registration attempts and will permanently ban any identified circumvention account without notice.
Matchmaking Service Conduct: Users who have purchased a Matchmaking Package are additionally bound by the matchmaking-specific conduct obligations in our Terms of Service. Misconduct directed at a NaijaCupid Matchmaker — including harassment, threats, abuse, or inappropriate pressure — will result in immediate termination of the active Matchmaking Session without refund.
6. NaijaCupid's Limitation of Liability Under This Code
While NaijaCupid takes robust measures to enforce this Code of Conduct and protect its community, users acknowledge the following important limitations:
- No Guarantee of User Behaviour: NaijaCupid cannot guarantee the conduct, honesty, identity, or intentions of any user on the platform. We do not conduct criminal background checks. Each user assumes personal responsibility for all interactions they engage in through the platform, whether online or in person.
- No Liability for User-Caused Harm: NaijaCupid is not liable for any harm, injury, financial loss, emotional distress, or damage caused to you by another user's conduct — whether that conduct violates this Code or not. Our responsibility is limited to taking reasonable enforcement action once a violation is reported to us.
- No Liability for Delayed Enforcement: NaijaCupid is not liable for any harm suffered by a user between the time a violation occurs and the time our moderation team takes enforcement action. We investigate all reports as quickly as possible but cannot guarantee immediate removal of all violating content or accounts.
- Limitation on Damages: To the fullest extent permitted by Nigerian law, NaijaCupid's total liability to any user in connection with the enforcement or non-enforcement of this Code of Conduct shall not exceed the amount paid by that user to NaijaCupid in the 12 months preceding the relevant event, or NGN 5,000 — whichever is greater.
- Indemnification: You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LonerTech Ltd, its directors, officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, costs, damages, or losses arising from your breach of this Code of Conduct, your conduct toward other users, or any misuse of the NaijaCupid platform by you.
- No Obligation to Monitor: NaijaCupid does not pre-screen all user content and is not obligated to actively monitor all user conduct. The absence of moderation action does not constitute endorsement or approval of any user's behaviour or content.
